The Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Act, 2019/2020 (Act 5 of 2020)

This amending statute overhauled large parts of the 1991 cooperatives law. Its stated aim is stronger regulation and supervision of all cooperatives, with a focus on the safety and soundness of SACCOs. It changes rules on registration, member rights and obligations, audit of records, amalgamation and the liability of past members. It adds new parts on corporate governance and on training cooperative leaders. The FAOLEX copy is the assented bill, titled the 2019 Act.
