Act

Cooperative Societies Act, Chapter 112 (consolidated as at 20 March 2020)

This is the principal law governing every registered cooperative in Uganda, from primary societies and SACCOs to unions and apex bodies. The consolidated text covers how societies are registered and run, members' rights and duties, the powers of the Registrar, audit and inquiry, amalgamation and dissolution, and settling disputes. This version includes the 2020 amendments on governance, audit and savings and credit cooperatives, so board members and managers can work from one current reference. ULII notes that a later amending Act (Act 17 of 2023) has not yet been merged into the text. Original source: https://ulii.org/akn/ug/act/statute/1991/8
